Video
Weather Reports is a short video made with images of over 50 drawings I made mostly during the summer of 2021. I started making these drawings after extreme heatwaves were recorded in British Colombia and the Pacific Northwest in June of 2021. In each drawing. I chose one word that often described things we were losing in these extreme weather events—Homes, Forests, Towns, Cities, Ice, Lives, Food, Water, Everything, and so on. The word was written in Climate Crisis Font which was developed by the Nordic’s largest newspaper Helsinging Sanomat. The font’s weight responds to NSIDC’s (National Snow and Ice Data Center) Arctic sea ice data from 1979 to 2019 and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The video flashes each image quickly and ends with the word, Future.
The font I use in this work is called the Climate Crisis Font developed by the Nordic’s largest newspaper Helsinging Sanomat. The font’s weight responds to NSIDC’s (National Snow and Ice Data Center) Arctic sea ice data from 1979 to 2019 and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC's) prediction all the way to 2050. One can visually get a sense of how much the ice has been melting and how much it is expected to melt in the future based on current forecasts.
In this work, I used the font with the future prediction, mostly for 2050.
