Field Notes (video)
Field Notes juxtaposes the imagery of the scanned images of traced writings from the whiteboards at the Broad Institute, which were further manipulated in Adobe Photoshop, with the bits of conversation and text. The work subtly critiques the challenges of data sharing in a scientific community —“We don’t have an access,” while shedding light onto scientists’ genuine enthusiasm —“We’ll be so productive,” frustrations —“I’m really tired of this,” how ideas are born —“Let me know when you’re ready to brainstorm,” and how they’re being challenged —“We’ll have a chat about how you’re wrong.” Without explicitly describing them, scientists’ daily challenges and joy are presented at the same time. It is composed as “a day in the life” of a scientist, by weaving together bits of conversation and text.
