A White Hand: a story of noblesse oblige (1875) - This season she has made her appearance

Ella Farman was born in 1837 and died in 1907. She was probably an American, though I’m not entirely sure. Her book, "A White Hand: a story of noblesse oblige" was published in 1875 in Boston. Farman wrote other books, and it seems that she had also written some children’s books. She must have had moderate success with publishing her stories.

I painted every page of this book, leaving some words and sentences. It had 260 pages, so I must have ended up with 130 pages of painted book pages. I ended up giving many away to friends and sold many pieces at my open studio. Most of these altered book pages were never documented.

Several years later, I documented what I was left with. After ten years since they were created, I finally thought that they were important part of my art practice. It doesn’t matter if they were good or bad—mostly I feel they were warm-up of a sort, but these book pages were there for me to keep going, and that was just as good for an artist.
